To build our own community filled with like-minded dreamers

Then, one day in 2017, Rocky Zuberbuhler bought a building. In fact, that was actually how he worded it when he called his family to tell them in his always-so-casual manner. But if you know Rocky, it surprised absolutely no one.

Rocky had long felt that Freeport had a collection of unique buildings in the downtown area that went forgotten and unused. While looking for office space one day, he came across a historic behemoth – a three-floor warehouse-style building – that would be the perfect setting for what he envisioned as a boutique hotel sitting atop a community of local businesses and more.

Currently, The Exchange is halfway through its completion of the main floor. It is now home to a community of entrepreneurs renting spaces for their individual businesses, Integrity Financial’s main office as well as a mid-sized, boutique event space, delivering on the goal of carving out its own corner of Freeport’s downtown area. They were even awarded Start-Up Business of the Year by the Greater Freeport Partnership in 2024.

The next step is to begin work on Phase 2, expanding the back half of the main floor and creating space for people to shop, eat, drink, socialize, and more. Follow along with our progress on Instagram and Facebook by following @theexchangefreeport.

“What sets The Exchange apart is not just the remodeled physical space it occupies but the heart and soul its owners invest in the community.”

This building is a summation of many volunteer efforts from family & friends who were willing to get their hands a little dirty, offer their expertise, show up at all hours of the day, all for the price of some burgers & beers. They all share the same vision of bringing something special to Freeport and we’re forever in their debt.
